From the ancient university in Uch Sharif to the establishment of Jamia Abbasia in 1925, the city has always been at the forefront of education. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), formerly known as Jamia Abbasia, continues this tradition today, offering a wide array of disciplines and a commitment to quality education.
History of IUB:
The journey of IUB started as a religious university, Jamia Abbasia, in 1925, where scholars taught various Islamic subjects along with contemporary studies. However, as the academic landscape evolved, so did the university. It transformed into a general university in 1975 and was renamed The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
Initially, IUB operated from Abbasia and Khawaja Fareed Campuses with ten departments. Recognizing the need for expansion, the university was allotted 1250 acres of land on Hasilpur Road, approximately eight kilometers from the city center. This area, known as Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus, transformed from sand dunes into a modern, self-sufficient campus featuring well-built faculties, hostels, residential colonies, farms, and orchards.
Expanding Disciplines and Campuses:
Starting with ten departments, IUB now proudly hosts 45 departments offering 74 disciplines. The university offers a diverse range of courses, from Religious Affairs, Languages, and Basic Sciences to emerging fields like Business Administration, Engineering, and Computer Science.
In 2005, to provide education closer to home for many students, IUB established two new campuses in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar. These campuses started with Departments of Management Sciences and Computer Science & Information Technology and have now expanded to seven and six departments, respectively.

The IUB App:
To facilitate its students, IUB has launched an official application. This app allows students to log in with their Registration Number and access various features. These include checking their enrollments, study plans, transport schedules, class timetables, transcripts, and account statements.
Students can also download fee vouchers, update their passwords, check their profiles, read the university’s terms and conditions, access the university’s official email, and send inquiries to different departments. This app serves as a comprehensive tool, bringing all essential student services under one digital roof.
